WELCOME TO THE ORGAN DONOR FOUNDATION

South Africa is a world leader in the field of organ transplantation; however, while the number of patients waiting for transplants continues to increase the serious shortage of potential donors continues to be of great concern.

The Organ Donor Foundation is a non-profit charity, established to address the critical shortage of organ and tissue donors in South Africa through awareness and education campaigns.

Currently there are over 3,500 South Africans waiting for organ and tissue transplants. Sadly, as a result of this critical shortage less than 1,000 of them will receive a transplant and the "Gift of Life" this year.

Research has shown that organ donation is acceptable to the majority of South Africans and contrary to popular belief, a grieving family takes great comfort from the knowledge that they are able to help others through the donation of their loved one's organs and tissues.

There is no cost charged to register as an organ donor.

Save Lives. Be an Organ Donor.

FRIENDS AIM TO RAISE FUNDS IN MEMORY OF THEIR DEAR FRIEND NIC

In July 2008 our friend, Nic had an emergency heart transplant. It was successful and his body accepted the new heart. We dubbed him bioNic after the transplant. Unfortunately there were other complications which tragically led to his untimely passing. Nic was 29. His new heart was fine.

Nic's amazing spiritual and positive outlook on life and how much he loved his wife and cared for all his friends and family left an impression on all of us. And it seems fitting that we honour and remember him by establishing The bioNIC Fund.

We intend to drive awareness and raise funds through The bioNIC Fund for The Organ Donor Foundation (ODF) by linking it to our participation in the 2009 Cape Epic marathon mountain bike stage race. It's 8 crazy days of 750kms with 16 000m of climbing. The race is highly competitive and physically taxing, with up to 10 of the past and current world champions competing.

www.cape-epic.com

It's quite simple. We're looking for donations per kilometer or a flat donation.

We'd like to challenge everyone to further commit to a bonus donation if we achieve a top 30 finish overall position (phew). This can easily be done on a pledge done via email.

Any donation will help large or small. Individual or corporate.

All donations should be done directly to the ODF and referenced as Bionic Fund

So dig deep, I know we are going to have to during the Epic!

A website (www.bionicfund.com) is dedicated to the event and linked directly to the ODF website.
