Donor Family Story
Reisendran Moodley

My name is Jennifer Moodley and I would like to share my story and testimony with you.

In January 2005 my fourth sister Tirsha, who was 26 years at that time, was diagnosed with renal failure. She needed a kidney and my three younger sisters and I volunteered without any questions and hesitation to give her a kidney. We love each other very much and would give our lives for each other.

After we had undergone the various tests, my second sister Vimi, who is a mother to two children, was able to donate one of her kidneys. he transplant was done at the Donald Gordan Institute on 12 February 2005. The Lord was good and the operation was successful and both my sisters are now in good health and leading normal lives. I believe that it is the handiwork of God and it is also a great act of love. My family became even stronger and closer than ever not realising that this was all in preparation for an even greater challenge that we would face.

Through this experience we were now aware of organ donation and transplantation.

On the 24 November 2006, my only son Reisendran Moodley was involved in a tragic car accident. He was 17 years old. He sustained severe head injuries and he was moved to Milpark Hospital for better trauma care. After the final brain stem testing he was certified brain dead on 27 November 2006. We were then asked about organ donation. And yes, it was God’s perfect plan that was fulfilled. My husband and I without any questions and doubt donated Reis’s kidneys, liver and pancreas. The recipients are doing exceptionally well. All three are females, and that was the only information disclosed to us. I have written them each a letter to let them know that my son was a very special child and also a beautiful child and that God had created him for this special purpose. And in all this we need to give God the glory and honour. We are instruments for His purpose only.

God chooses the doctors, the nurses and all those involved in organ donation and transplantation, purposefully to do His will.

All life comes from God and Him only.

May the Lord bless those involved in His work.

I hope that my life will be a testimony to help others become aware of giving the gift of life to others.
